12.29.06 - Jennifer Dery Photography - Web Log for 2006

The 2006 year has ended and I must admit I am very happy. It was a crazy year with the building of our studio space and honestly I'm amazed I made it out alive. Don't get me wrong, I love the space, but I'm just glad it is now 2007 and we can move forward and simply concentrate on weddings!

I have some great news to share for the new year;

I'll be débuting a new website & blog in March, I'm so excited I can't stand it. They are such a nice update to what I'm currently showing. There will be more samples of everything and the blog will be much faster for me to update.

I have a few events to travel to this spring:

• Austin Texas & Santa Fe, New Mexico at the end of February
• Las Vegas at the end of March
• Japan at the beginning of May
• Negril, Jamaica - 2nd week of June
• Glacier National Park in Montana

If you would like to schedule a portrait or engagement session in any of these locations, please let me know! Also, don't worry if I'm away and you need help, Lauren & Jessie will be here and are happy to help you!

Studio Build Out | View From Jen's Desk | May 4th

I finally got a chance to take some more photos of our current project... building out our new studio! This has been such a journey, when I first posted about it below there were no walls inside, now we are framed out and drywalled! Hopefully we can start thinking about moving in by the end of the month. Keeping my fingers crossed. More Photos

Becky & Jason | Engagement Session | April 19th

Becky and Jason had one of their first dates at Trulli restaunt in Encinitas so that is where we went for their engagement session. Of course we then wandered over to Swami's and used both the gardens and beach for some fun images as well. I'm really looking forward to this wedding. Becky is bringing a little of her New Orleans heritage into the wedding with the music, food and decor. And with Adrianne Smith working with her on all this I'm sure it is going to be a really interesting and fun thing to photograph. Plus I LOVE live music! And Beignets! See you at L'Auberge in October.

Michele & Shaun | Engagement Session | April 14th

Thank you Michele & Shaun for going through with our scheduled session even though it was raining! It was a lot of fun to do something out of the norm and hang out with a great couple who is up for anything. I'm looking forward to the wedding at the Four Seasons Aviara.

Heather & Jon | Estancia La Jolla | April 8th

I love photographing at Estancia! Great light everywhere, you just can't go wrong there. Heather and Jon had a wonderful wedding there today coordinated by Kim Brody with flowers by Adrianne Smith. It was stunning and the couple was so in love we all got a little misty at the ceremony.

Sandy and Akrum | St. Spyridon and Hotel Del Coronado | March 4

An enormous Persian wedding with all the trimmings, it was SO fun! Sandy and Akrum know how to party and so do their 500 guests! The Hotel Del did a great job of dealing with all the last minute changes as did Susanne Duffy of Crown Weddings to create and absolutely perfect day! Sandy's Vera Wang dress was a hit and she looked so great in it too!

Danielle and Greg | Engagement Session

Have I mentioned how much fun we have doing engagement sessions? Getting silly, getting to know each other and enjoying a little break from our everyday busy lives. What is not to love? Oh yeah, and you get great photos too!

Bill and Marisa | Rancho Santa Fe | February 18th

A lovely little vow renewal at this couple's home in Rancho Santa Fe. They eloped to Costa Rica in January then threw this lovely party for their family and friends to celebrate with them. The fantastic catering was provided by Pamplemouse with coordination by Diane Kern of Exclusive Events.

Austin Texas | Valentines Day

A few days of work and a few of play in a fun new city, Austin Texas! What a cool town! We stayed at the San Jose Hotel, great little modern remodel. Plus we had Valentine's dinner at the South Congress Cafe. Ok, I could move to this town just for this restaurant... but add the fun stores and the great music, well, lets jut say I'll be seein' a lot of Austin.

BIG NEWS!!! | Jennifer Dery Photography's new studio space!

Well after too many years, we are finally set to move into a detached studio space! Yippee! This building has good bones, but needs oh so much work, yikes. Here are some "before" photos: Studio Feb 6. As you can see we have a big empty scary shell to build out. I'll post the progress as we go. Ideally we will be moving in by the end of April. Above you are looking at the front of the building (that sign has to go!) and next to it the view to the ocean (on a clear day) from the roof.

Maica and Kris Peterson | La Jolla Presbyterian and Del Mar Country Club | February 4

This wedding was just gorgeous! Beautiful bride, cute groom, Kathy Wright's amazing flowers, and a great location, what more could a photographer ask for? I just love tiny kids in tiny tuxes too!

A little aside: If you are getting married in a church be sure to ask ahead about their photography policies! If you want intimate ceremony photos you won't get those at a location that requires the photographer to stay at the very back or in the choir loft. I don't mind one bit either way, but you should know what to expect before you reserve your ceremony location. If you have any questions I'd be happy to chat! jen@jenniferdery.com

Sandy and Akrum | Engagement Session | February 3

Oh, these two are going to be a handful come the wedding day, and I say this only in the best of ways! Sandy and Akrum have so much personality and were a blast to spend some time with this afternoon for their engagement shoot. These two really dig each other and it really shows in the photos! Even after being together for years already they are still all smoochy, it's great!

Rachel and Joe | La Jolla Woman's Club | January 21

The guys were allowed to wear their Vans! Rachel changed her mind at the last minute and said yes, the groomsmen could wear their "gifts" which were all matching black Vans shoes. This was a really fun wedding, everyone had such upbeat and energetic personalities. I loved watching Joe "dance" at the reception, he really has a style all his own.

Heather and Jon | Point Loma Nazarene| January 7

Heather and Jon met and started dating at the beautiful campus of Point Loma Nazarene College. We saw the campus as a fitting location for a fun little engagement session for them since it is an important part of their history together.

Elizabeth and Dave | Torrey Pines | January 3

Elizabeth and Dave learned today that they love the photos of themselves when they are laughing or showing their "true" smile vs. their photo smile. Like anyone, they prefer the caught and candid moments instead of stiff shots. The engagement session is a great learning tool... please, please consider doing one! You get to see what you look like from every angle, learn how I interact with you and have a good time too! If we have already worked together on the engagement shoot, by the day of the wedding you won't even notice the camera.

Jennifer and Randy Smith | Rancho Santa Fe | January 1

Jennifer wants to get into wedding coordinating I believe, well it showed at her own wedding today. WOW, she did her own flowers and they were beautiful, she did an amazing job overall! Tons of wonderful details everywhere. Rain threatened all day but it miraculously stayed clear for the private estate backyard ceremony and reception. I particularly love shooting wedding at places I've never been before, especially at beautiful private estates! These gerbera daisies floating on the pool were my favorite.
