You just can’t go wrong at the Four Season Aviara. It was a stunning day and a beautiful couple!

Now I don’t usually blog this many photos from weddings. I shoot so many things I can’t even blog all of them and I certainly could never keep up if I did this every time. Of course every so often a wedding comes along that I just love and I go a little nuts with it. This is one of those.
First, I loved Laura and Eli. They are so quirky and don’t care that I show all their expressions (not just the pretty ones) and as a photographer that is the best. I love being able to show real personalities and that includes all the funny faces. Second, I am swooning over the location…. the courtyard at La Valencia is just stunning at sunset when the string-lights are glowing and the sky is cobalt blue.
This was a destination wedding for the entire group. Some of you may recall Laura & Eli’s engagement shoot we did in New York a while back. And La Valencia was the perfect location for all the family and friends to converge and take over the intimate property.
Big thanks to the fabulous coordinator, Diane Kern. She is a darling to work with and everything is always perfect!
The Bride’s-men…

Generally I’m not a big fan of jumping shots, but I gotta say I like this one.

The Bride had some Texas Longhorn fans in the family, ha!

My favorite thing in the world (when it comes to photography) is to shoot in a new location. I am asked all the time, “where is your favorite place to shoot?”… my answer is always, “somewhere new!”
So…. I’m going somewhere new! A part of New York City I’ve not yet explored and a beautiful beach in Kona Hawaii I’ve yet to walk barefoot on.
If you will be nearby consider scheduling a photography session with me. An engagement session or a “trash the dress” session would be so fun. I’ll be in New York May 19th & 20th and in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii June 2nd & 3rd. There are so many places to explore and have fun. If you are wanting some amazing photos of you and your love now is the time!
Just email me to schedule a time: studio at jenniferdery dot com
See you soon!

As promised, a few more images from Kelly’s & Raj’s wedding day. It isn’t often that I’m given 3 hours to just play with the bride and groom. Typically I get about 30 minutes (squeezed between family photos & the reception) so it was a lot of fun to not have to keep an eye on the time.

My husband wanted them to jump off a ledge, which they did, my angle made for a crazy looking shot…

I love how Raj is looking at Kelly… he loves her… so sweet….

I’ve been dying to get some images up from Kelly’s and Raj’s wedding at Aventura Palace just south of Cancun in Mexico. It was just the two of them but even so was just as emotional and powerful as any wedding I’ve been to with a guest list of 400.Here is part one, I’ll try to get part two up on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Yes those are tears below running down Raj’s cheek…

the wind was not our friend this day, but it sure made things dramatic!

Usually destination weddings have a smallish list of guests…somewhere under 40 is typical. Vivian & James however filled an entire ballroom with at least 65 people. Everyone was wonderful and got along well which is very important when you are all staying in the same all-inclusive resort for the entire stay.
When you do a destination wedding the best part is getting to know all the guests and family. We found out Vivian’s family is from Cuba, they must have great dance lessons there because it was really fun to see them on the dance floor! On top of that it turned out that Vivian and her brothers went to the same high school as my husband. The world just keeps getting smaller!
A few images for your viewing pleasure….
Bridesmaid becomes make-up artist & Dad nervously waiting for the carriage to arrive.

The wedding carriage arriving at the “chapel”

The chapel was a little on the toasty side, both Vivian & James needed to catch a little breeze to cool off.

who can resist running through a flock of seabirds?

with the heat & humidity, it was a treat to have the dancing moved indoors.. conga!

so the next morning as we were checking out, I caught a quick shot of the newlyweds heading to the pool… a little weary, but very happy! Congrats you two!

I had every intention of doing numerous blog posts while here in the Yucatan. But this IS Mexico, and I forgot I couldn’t always depend on the internet in the middle of the jungle or at the beach. Honestly it’s been a blessing in disguise because it has forced me to be just a bit more on vacation that I’m used to. Vacation, what’s that?
We started this trip in Cancun for the wedding of Vivian and James, spent some time touring the Mayan temples, came back to Playa del Carmen for the wedding of Kelly & Raj, then spent some time decompressing in Puerto Morelos at the amazing Ceiba del Mar hotel & Spa. (I really want to shoot a wedding at Ceiba del mar, beautiful!)
I’m going to do blog posts about all the events, tours and things I saw when I’m back, but for now you just get a few teaser photos to tide you over. We leave in a few hours, so sad, but we’ll be back!

Saludos y buenos días!
We’ve arrived (finally) in Cancun for the destination wedding weekend of Vivian & Jim. It was a 12 hour trip from door to door but not entirely unpleasant. Duh, I forgot I had upgraded us to 1st class so it was a surprise for us as we boarded the plane. Gotta love those air miles!
Today was Vivian and Jim’s rehearsal but I’m just going to give you a little teaser and I’ll post more later…….

You can’t beat spending time at gorgeous Ponte Winery on a beautifully mild day with a view of snow capped mountains in the distance. Amazing. Julie was a joy to photograph and Heath (and his boys) were so much fun to be around. Heath will probably hate me to tell you, be he plays for the Minnesota Vikings, and because of this they will be moving from lovely San Diego to the Midwest. Well Julie, at least you get to go shopping for some cute coats right?
Don’t feel too bad for them, they got a great honeymoon in the Cayman Islands before leaving for the cold!
Flowers: Kathy Wright & Co
Dress: Alvina Valenta

Getting out to Ponte just makes me want to visit Napa and Sonoma… why is that?

I must apologize, I missed blogging about Kevin & Daniella’s engagement session. Some weeks I can have up to 6 shoots and I have to be honest, I don’t always blog everything I do. (If I missed your event & you were counting the days until I posted, please let me know!)
I can’t see how I missed these two however. They are both amazing, beautiful people on the inside and out! We took these photos in August of 2007. My time flies! the wedding was just last week at La Valencia so I’ll be posting those images shortly as well. I hope the Napa honeymoon was amazing! (I’m so jealous)
