Destination Wedding at Cabo Surf Hotel, Mexico – Andy & Lauren

I’ve known Lauren for nearly 8 years. She’s been to a million weddings with me as a second shooter and I’ve seen her grow from recent college graduate transplant from the mid-west to married yoga teacher and home owner ready to start a family of her own. Needless to say it was a BIG deal Lauren was getting married and just as big a deal that I got to photograph the big day.

Lauren met Andy at a street festival. She was surrounded by her many guy friends, yet by the end of the party Andy had it in him to go talk to her anyway. Pretty impressive I think! They’ve been inseparable ever since.

They both have really great circles of friends they’ve collected over the years and many of them made the trip to Cabo Surf in Mexico for the extended Weekend party. This wedding ranks right there with my best friend’s wedding as the most fun I’ve ever had at an event. And as always, it is the people more than anything that makes an event great. It was fun to come home to a few more friends on facebook at the end of it all.

Lauren and Andy (and Lauren’s Mom) worked really hard on pulling together a really relaxing event but at the same time having great attention to all the details such as lighting, seating and cute favor bags left in everyone’s hotel rooms. At the end they released beautiful Thai lanterns to mark the end of the wedding and start of their life together. It was quite dramatic and pretty.

And I can’t leave you without a plug for Andy & Lauren’s businesses, hoping them every success in the future!

Wedding at the Grand Del Mar – Julia and Pete

Julia and Pete fell in love with the Grand and each other while on vacation in San Diego. When they decided to get married they knew right away THIS was the place for their event. They both travel often, in fact they met on a plane, so the subtle theme of the wedding was travel. You’ll see the beat-up suitcase as a grooms cake, the luggage tags and not shown, the favors to their guests were ipod-shuffles.

When I hear that a Bride or Groom works for a fancy ad agency in San Francisco I always start to worry. I mean, these people know their sh*% right? Thank goodness I didn’t find out where Sha worked until after they hired me. Gulp. Needless to say Sha and Victor are fabulous… fun, quirky, silly and cute as can be. I like quirky. I can work with that.

Pink, Pink, Pink Wedding Photography at Rancho Valencia – Danielle & Nathan

I know Rancho Valencia sets up a party tent on the tennis court all the time, but it was the first time I’ve seen it in person and WOW, it was amazing! Because of the way viewing is set up for a tennis match, the tent gets a very regal position and really pops.

Danielle and Nathan live in New York and have a very urban lifestyle. As much as the couple really loved Rancho Valencia, they also wanted some images that reflected their more urban tastes so we took to the streets. I love wandering down alleys for great light and locations. A happy photographer makes happy images!

Thanks to all for all your hard work in creating this beautiful event. Just goes to show that with great vendors a destination wedding can come together perfectly!

Italian Vacation – part 4 – Tuscan Countryside

For the last few days we’ve been renting either a car or more often a scooter to tour the Tuscan countryside. I’ve enjoyed our days out despite being rather sick. In particular I love getting quick portraits of the people we meet along the way. Nothing fancy or set up, just quick shots of people in their own environment. And of course, the rolling hills…

Destination Wedding at La Valencia La Jolla – Holly and Jason

I LOVE destination weddings! I especially love them when they come to me and I never have to set foot in an airport. As much as I love travel, destination weddings right here in San Diego are a fantastic thing.

Holly and Jason live in Chicago and brought in their guests from all over the country to meet up for their wedding weekend at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla. It was a lot of fun to be around so many people that were seeing what our fine city has to offer for the first time.

Holly and Jason were both great sports for the camera. Makes my life so easy. Thanks you two!

Courtyard wedding at La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla – Laura & Eli

Now I don’t usually blog this many photos from weddings. I shoot so many things I can’t even blog all of them and I certainly could never keep up if I did this every time. Of course every so often a wedding comes along that I just love and I go a little nuts with it. This is one of those.

First, I loved Laura and Eli. They are so quirky and don’t care that I show all their expressions (not just the pretty ones) and as a photographer that is the best. I love being able to show real personalities and that includes all the funny faces. Second, I am swooning over the location…. the courtyard at La Valencia is just stunning at sunset when the string-lights are glowing and the sky is cobalt blue.

This was a destination wedding for the entire group. Some of you may recall Laura & Eli’s engagement shoot we did in New York a while back. And La Valencia was the perfect location for all the family and friends to converge and take over the intimate property.

Big thanks to the fabulous coordinator, Diane Kern. She is a darling to work with and everything is always perfect!

Going on Location: portraits in NYC and Kona, Hawaii

My favorite thing in the world (when it comes to photography) is to shoot in a new location. I am asked all the time, “where is your favorite place to shoot?”… my answer is always, “somewhere new!”

So…. I’m going somewhere new! A part of New York City I’ve not yet explored and a beautiful beach in Kona Hawaii I’ve yet to walk barefoot on.

If you will be nearby consider scheduling a photography session with me. An engagement session or a “trash the dress” session would be so fun. I’ll be in New York May 19th & 20th and in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii June 2nd & 3rd. There are so many places to explore and have fun. Eloping in Cancun (part two)

As promised, a few more images from Sara and Rahul’s wedding day. It isn’t often that I’m given 3 hours to just play with the bride and groom. Typically I get about 30 minutes (squeezed between family photos & the reception) so it was a lot of fun to not have to keep an eye on the time.

My husband wanted them to jump off a ledge, which they did, my angle made for a crazy looking shot…

I love how Rahul is looking at Sara… he loves her… so sweet….
