Now I don’t usually blog this many photos from weddings. I shoot so many things I can’t even blog all of them and I certainly could never keep up if I did this every time. Of course every so often a wedding comes along that I just love and I go a little nuts with it. This is one of those.
First, I loved Laura and Eli. They are so quirky and don’t care that I show all their expressions (not just the pretty ones) and as a photographer that is the best. I love being able to show real personalities and that includes all the funny faces. Second, I am swooning over the location…. the courtyard at La Valencia is just stunning at sunset when the string-lights are glowing and the sky is cobalt blue.
This was a destination wedding for the entire group. Some of you may recall Laura & Eli’s engagement shoot we did in New York a while back. And La Valencia was the perfect location for all the family and friends to converge and take over the intimate property.
Big thanks to the fabulous coordinator, Diane Kern. She is a darling to work with and everything is always perfect!
The Bride’s-men…

Generally I’m not a big fan of jumping shots, but I gotta say I like this one.

The Bride had some Texas Longhorn fans in the family, ha!

These two were crazy fun and I certainly put them through their paces. They brought their bikes played in the playground, had a tickle fight and finally ended at the Catamaran where their wedding will be held next July. Can’t wait!

Cute couple, silly kitties and beautiful light, what more could a photographer ask for?

I had a ton of fun and a great challenge with Laura and Chris’ engagement session. Chris is a photographer (daunting) and Laura, although a great sport, really doesn’t care for PDA or to be the center of attention. My challenge was to create some great images for a great couple but keep it very real.

How appropriate to do an engagement session at the “happiest place on earth”? It was the perfect location for Jennifer and John as they are season ticket holders and visit on a very regular basis. Disneyland is an interesting place to shoot. Technically we aren’t allowed to do a “commercial” shoot there without paying a hefty fee for park usage. The only way around this is to lay low and not bring attention to yourselves. We did quite well I think!

My favorite thing in the world (when it comes to photography) is to shoot in a new location. I am asked all the time, “where is your favorite place to shoot?”… my answer is always, “somewhere new!”
So…. I’m going somewhere new! A part of New York City I’ve not yet explored and a beautiful beach in Kona Hawaii I’ve yet to walk barefoot on.
If you will be nearby consider scheduling a photography session with me. An engagement session or a “trash the dress” session would be so fun. I’ll be in New York May 19th & 20th and in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii June 2nd & 3rd. There are so many places to explore and have fun. If you are wanting some amazing photos of you and your love now is the time!
Just email me to schedule a time: studio at jenniferdery dot com
See you soon!

I shot Christy & Rich’s wedding at Estancia La Jolla just a touch over 3 years ago. It was a beautiful wedding despite the fact that it rained that day. Some of you might remember the wedding, but here are a few of their wedding images just in case:

Well I’m bringing up their wedding because I was just up in Newport Beach to check out their new BEAUTIFUL house and to do another portrait session with them. Christy cracked me up when she admitted that they have these new designer frames that their interior designer installed but they have photos of supermodels in them at the moment. Ha! We’ll soon fix that problem! Christy you now have a great assortment of new images. (I’ll show you the rest when I see you. Baby session next?????)

Jennifer and Brad were a lot of fun for this shoot and definitely bought a lighter side to the urban grit of the streets. I’m really looking forward to see what they do along with their coordinator Lisa Lippe with their wedding in July at the Four Seasons Aviara. I’m sure it will be stunning and full of smiles!

I must apologize, I missed blogging about Kevin & Daniella’s engagement session. Some weeks I can have up to 6 shoots and I have to be honest, I don’t always blog everything I do. (If I missed your event & you were counting the days until I posted, please let me know!)
I can’t see how I missed these two however. They are both amazing, beautiful people on the inside and out! We took these photos in August of 2007. My time flies! the wedding was just last week at La Valencia so I’ll be posting those images shortly as well. I hope the Napa honeymoon was amazing! (I’m so jealous)
